WHO ARE WE?

In January, we set up 4 ad hoc committees to give the Executive Committee some structure and direction.

IMDC Exec Mins 01-23

  •  Club Meetings Facilities **Robin & Helen**
    • We've held 3 face-to-face/zoom meetings but with only a small attendance. Zooming with a crowd has been a bit rough. We're getting better at it, but the actual location seems to be the biggest hurdle. Mountain Mike's was good for our size crowd and we'll try it again in June.
  • Marketing IMDC **Tekla**
    • Tekla has produced a list of possible events that we can participate in, but we need deatil info on each, such as dates for sign-up deadline, cost, number of participants, and a brief descripition of what we would do to participate
  • Develop 2023-24 Campaign **Fred & Steve**
    • Steve's concern is supporting Dem candidates in races outside of Mendo, statewide and national. We have links to several external organizations that provide faciilities to join other campaigns, but we need a "Volunteer-Friendly" write up to puyblish to our members so that they have ready access to these organizations.
  • IMDC Meeting Program **Helen and Kayla...**
    • We've had very interesting forums this year, and Robin has done her best to post PSAs, but we need to extend the timeline so that we can publish the program for several months ahead.

.Our structure seems to be working , at least as far as the Executive Committee activities.

The club's mission is to get out the Democratic vote in elections. We can do all sorts of Executive Committee activities, but unless we develop a strong volunteer network, it is just so much BS.

We need volunteers to participate in Tekla's events. We need volunteers to contribute to external campaigns and local campaigns, such as the MHQ, and we need more attendance at our club meeting to foster a spirit of community and pride in Democratic and Progressive ideals.

    1. Volunteer Network
      1. Discuss how to set up a working volunteer network
      2. 8 ways to motivate volunteers in your network
    1. We already have a group of volunteers, but only a few know that they are volunteers. Actually converting "members" to "volunteers" requires converting our "club" into  "volunteer network".
The links above are a sample of sources that are experienced in creating robust volunteer organizations. One thing that is apparent, (as we are painfully aware) getting volunteers simply by announcing that we need volunteers is simply a fool's errand.
I don't want to continue just  sending out emails as our only volunteer tool. It takes planning and organization to get to the point that, as a Democratic Club, we can actually contribute to the party's success.
I need your commitment to work to build up the club into a strong volunteer organization. I'll put in the time to develop a strategy and execution plan to accomplish it, but it will take your participation, particularly involving personal member contacts (i.e., face to face or phone) to make it work.
