Michelle Hutchins left early, Fred Mervine, Helen Sizemore, Robin Sunbeam, Gabriel Baca Meza, Jesse Boyd is liaison with the CC.

    1. Call to order / Welcome 4:05 by Fred
    2. Revision and approval of agenda
    3. Consider April Minutes  written by Judy and transcribed by Fred
    4. Treasurer’s Report
      1. No new members to approve
      2. 6 mo CD Exp June 20 renew  2025519 Motion to approve renewing the CD to another 6 month term after putting the interest gained into our checking account: Yes
         

      3. Thanks to Helen for standing in for the Treasurer while she was traveling.

    6. Central Committee Report - Gabriel/Jesse
      • Central Committee Report  Chartered a new Democratic Club in South Coast, conducted online based polling, gave Nuestra Allianza $1200, changed their normal meeting to the Retreat on May 17th, Community Action Alliance on May 18th. 
    7. Chair’s Report- Fred Mervine Fred has been working on a program that will enter all the data into our membership spreadsheets automatically when they enroll online as well as be able to contact them with our email/texting app. 
    8. Old Business
      1. Endorsement Standing Rule: Fred reorganized Kayla's doc a bit with headings and re-groupings. Fred added his comments in italic text and mostly indented. He did not change any of her initial text. - Tabled again

      2. Attracting new Democratic Club members.
        • Membership Application Fred has written a program with a new application form  directly on our web page including opportunities to volunteer and event opportunities.  The program will automatically contact those who are recorded as volunteering for each task.  Volunteer greeters will personally call new members.  Further discussion on the membership drive will be in a future meeting called by Fred before June 5
      3. Recall of the District Attorney
        • Helen will do further research on recall: Helen got someone to write up the recall paperwork.  Leo Buc is looking for another candidate to replace him.  It will need 8000 signatures. Helen is moving forward on this. 
      4. Candidate recruitment for future elections - Tabled due to absence of Steve & Peter
        • Steve and Peter will look in to that, where vacancies may be coming up in the next elections or a need for candidate changes. ELECTED OFFICIALS - MENDOCINO COUNTY 2024/25
        • Steve will check with central committee on appropriate next steps.
      5. Public forum at the college on the 6 political parties
        • Gabriel will contact the college to see if they would be open to hosting. Phil Warf said it can be done at the beginning of next semester.  It can only work if several political parties are included.  Maybe in August or early September.  Plan to reach out to the 6 registered political parties.  To state their platforms and values with a few moderated Q&A.  How will a forum with each political party benefit the Democrats? 
      6. Setting the salary for the DA’s office - Unnecessary
        • John Haschak told us at our last general meeting that the Board of Supervisors already set the salary for the DA.

      1. Member at Large - nominate Peter Good to replace Judy who resigned 2025519 Motion to approve in absentia Peter Good now that he has consented to replace Judy Morgan as Member at Large: Yes
         
      2. Membership Drive 2025519 Motion to approve purchase of postage stamps and paper for the annual membership renewals: Yes
        Robin will update the renewal letter and email it to the Exec Committee for approval. Vote to approve it next month. Helen has a roll of stamps in stock. 
      3. Central Committee meeting Planning Retreat next Saturday at Susan's house in Ft. Bragg. Robin is carpooling with Steve.  Helen not going.  Gabriel is going and may go with Perri.  Fred is undecided. 
      4. ACTION
        1. We (the Democratic Party) are the point of the spear. The power we have is in the vote. We need to prepare for the 2026 campaign now
        2. Federal - Make sure we keep Huffman visible
        3. State - Make sure we keep Rogers visible
        4. Local - 2026 3rd and 5th Dist Supervisors up for election.
          • 3rd Haschak. He he may not run again Petra Buchanan is interested
          • 5th Do we support Williams, or can we find a better candidate?
        5. Other local seats in 2026.  Need a list of vacancies and offices up for election in 2026. One of the most effective actions we can take now is to recruit progressive candidates for as many local seats as we can.

    1. Good of the Order - Gabriel is running for VP of the Mendocino College Student Government.
