Requirements for inlandmendodems.org Website

Introduction

Vision

We are simply a small group of people with some shared ideals and beliefs in the context of Mendocino as a community, specifically concerning how this community can govern itself to the greatest benefit to the individual members of that community, and hence to the whole.

Mission

As a political party we seek to realize this vision by striving to elect officials to office that share our ideals and will work to achieve our long term vision.

Goal

Our overall goal is to bring our government into harmony with the well being of our citizens. This goal evolves with each election cycle and the candidates that step into the fray. Our near term goals are defined in the context of each election.
But our overall Mission remains to elect candidates to office that will best advance our effort to meet our goals and thus move towards realizing our vision.

Purpose

A web site is one face of an entity that influences, in fact may define, the entity to the world. As such, the public's impression of the entity, i.e., the MCDCC, the IMDC and the Party in general, can greatly impact our ability to achieve our goals.

There are many social media platforms, but in particular Facebook is predominant. So why do we need a web site? Facebook is a PUSH media – broadcast to the ether, and perhaps someone will see. The NOW is important. Web sites are a PULL media – posts to the web site are archival. There is some overlap. For example, a calendar can be effective on both platforms, but it isn't likely that we would post meeting minutes on Facebook, and expect to search for club documents or past actions among all the posting on a Facebook page.

Our web site serves four basic purposes:

  • Present our face to the public
  • Provide a platform to deliver our message
  • Provide a platform to communicate and support club activities
  • Provide a platform on which to establish our current and historic presence

Constraints

  1. We want to serve all of our stakeholders, but that is a fairly tall order. We need to meet our immediate needs in the context of the next election cycle.
  2. Some desirable features require careful management – e.g. Text Messaging capability

Stakeholders

We need to understand our audience so that we can build an effective website that achieves our purpose. Our audience is comprised of several groups of stakeholders.

The Stakeholders:

  • Public - anyone who can access the web site
  • Democrats – registered Democrats, but not club members
  • Club Members in Good Standing - paid up members of one of the three clubs
  • Contributors – e.g., IMDC Executive Committee

Website Organization

The website has two main segments:

  1. Public – anyone can access the website, but only to view content; and perhaps join us and/or donate to the club
  2. Member – members can LOGIN and contribute to the content subject to several capability levels. Members can use other member-specific features.

You can access the website at: inlandmendodems.org
