MHQ-2020-Ops

Due to the Corona Virus the IMDC will not host a permanent office between now and the election. However, with a stunning suggestion from Monica and a brilliant plan from Joe The BA Van Story was born. Joe will drive his van around Mendocino County to promote Democratic candidates and issues from Labor Day (September 7) until the November 3 election. We will need lots of help from volunteers.

Here are the details:

  • Joe will drive his large van to planned stops where signs on the van and a table with appropriate literature will be setup. All required Covid19 precautions will be followed at all times.
  • A stop list and the start of a schedule has been created – see below.
  • We need volunteers to serve as stop coordinators. Each coordinator will confirm that any necessary permissions have been gained, that the stop will be fully visible from passing foot and vehicle traffic (think of the van as a billboard), help to schedule dates and times for the stop, travel to the stop and help Joe setup and host the table.
  • If any special activity is to be done at a stop the stop coordinator will be responsible.
  • The stop schedule will be flexible as we learn where the most benefit can be gained, so regular communication will be necessary. Joe and Mike will accept calls and messages as we move on.
  • Please contact Mike (mike@pacific.net 707-972-1524) to confirm stop details.
  • Joe can be contacted as necessary (707-367-0910) .
  • We will also need a volunteer to help with marketing – contacting radio stations, newspapers, web site, etc.
  • We also need a volunteer to communicate with Coastal Clubs and the Central Committee to determine if van stops in their areas are desired.
  • Judy is organizing materials for the BA Van.
  • Stops are preferred on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays, although exceptions can be made for special events.
  • Two stops will be visited in a given day. A typical stop will consist of a half hour of setup, be open for three to four hours, then packed up.
  • Joe will not bring passengers, as this is not consistent with proper spacing.
  • Joe will, as requested, transport materials from stop to stop given advance notice and coordination.

Almost a dozen of you have suggested stops. I hope that you will volunteer to coordinate those stops!!! A couple of hours here and there are all that is necessary!
