Elections Project Report
Education -Helen Sizemore
I was inspired after listening to a podcast titled SCENE ON RADIO.
Please listen if you can— Season 4, episode 10, May 13, 2020 —SCHOOLED FOR DEMOCRACY.
I shared this link with Michelle Hutchins, Superintendent of Schools and she was enthusiastic. She is currently swamped with details for opening school sites. We will have a meeting
in February.
The idea is to offer the details of participatory citizenship in our democracy.
- Drill down on redistricting, which occurs after every census for example. This is a non political issue.
- Finding an issue the class decides is important to them and then contacting their elected representatives to offer and receive opinions on action they can take.
- Discussing the importance of voting and voter suppression.
- Understanding the Constitution.
- Public Service is not self serving, but representative, for the betterment of society.
I can not do this alone. Please contact me helensize@gmail.com to be on this committee.
We will have virtual meetings to share ideas, and move forward to the students.
Thank you for you interest and participation in IMDC.
