Dark forces have gathered and we are in the gravest peril.
Our only hope is in the people
Numbers matter:
- Inland Mendocino is home to about 18,000 registered Democrats.
- Only 4867 inland registered voters voted in the 2024 primary. – about 45%.
- In the 2024 primary election the First District Supervisor race was won by a Republican with 2689 votes.
- Electeds are very aware of voter turnout. If IMDC suggests to a Supervisor that the club supports a particular position, a ho-hum response is likely, but if our club represents 2000 active voters, the response would be quite different.
- 2000 voters is just a bit short of 10% of registered Democratic voters in Inland Mendocino, and about 25% of voting Dems.
- IMDC has about 120 members in good standing. Clearly an insignificant number of votes.
I believe that it is reasonable to assume that if people are interested enough to invest in voting, that they are very likely interested in participating more fully in the democratic process – that is join our club.
What would it take to launch a membership drive to enroll 2000 members before the 2026 genreal?
Two important conditions: a dedicated team and funding.
I want to hold a Democratic Summit to consider the following proposal and enlist your knowledge, skills and energy to form an effective membership drive team with people at this meeting. "It's about time" (JM)
If you are interested in attending this summit, please reply to this email with a day and time in the second week in November that you would be able to attend. Zoom access will be available and the meeting can be recorded.
Agenda placeholder keep this link, agenda will be available shortly
The IMDC has $10,000 to invest in this drive, and I will solicit another $10,000 from the Central Committee.
This effort will require considerable expertise in executing the actual drive, but it will also take planning, political, demographic, psychological, marketing and sales skills.
In a nutshell:
- The goal is to build the Mendocino County Democratic Party into a political entity with the voting power to influence Mendocino politics.
- The objective is to enroll 2000 new club members by October 1, 2026.
- The scope is MCDCC, and the 3 Clubs
The fundamental questions to be considered at this meeting:
- Is this a feasible goal and objective?
- Can we assemble a project team with the requisite capabilities?
- Can we muster the necessary funds?
- Is there a professional entity/resource that we can engage?
From the potential recruit perspective:
- What is the upside of joining the club for an individual?
- What is the benefit to the community of a strong IMDC?
- What is the ROI for the individual?
- How would the club utilize a large membership?
- How would the club manage a large membership ?
