We, the undersigned, formally request that the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors take the necessary steps to return the positions of Auditor Controller and Treasurer Tax Collector to two separate, independent offices that are elected by Mendocino County voters.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Whereas the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors voted December 14, 2021, to consolidate the offices of Auditor Controller and Treasurer Tax Collector without a risk assessment analysis and against the recommendations of the offices involved<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Whereas the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors improperly suspended the duly elected Auditor Controller Treasurer Tax Collector (ACTTC) on October 17, 2023, utilizing a provision of the law specific to an office (TTC) where the action did not take place (AC), without giving the ACTTC an opportunity to respond. This lack of due process and mediation will most likely prove to be very costly for the people of Mendocino County as it has led to protracted litigation including a counter suit.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Whereas the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors continues to move forward with creating a Department of Finance, run entirely by department heads appointed by the County administrator and Board of Supervisors, intending to further circumvent the democratic process by eroding the power of the voters of Mendocino County<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Whereas the offices of Auditor Controller and Treasurer Tax Collector should be separate and independently elected to maintain the integrity, transparency and accountability of County finances<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
